The Chinese Contribution to Hidden Rock
In Hidden Rock, as throughout much of the American West, Chinese immigrants played a huge and important role. Originally coming to the area to help build railroads, the Asian population found itself excluded from many areas either by law or threat of violence. In Hidden Rock, some enterprising Chinese (including Kasira Vang's great-grandfather), established their own "China town" to the south of Hidden Rock. Over the decades, this area was eventually absorbed by the community and became a hub for commerce, including a variety of restaurants, grocery stores, theaters and more. |
