Grace Gervais
It was clear that Mrs. Gervais's delicate condition was the result of more than just old age. Her skin was cold to the touch and had the texture of tissue paper. It was as though an insufficient amount of blood pumped through her tiny body. She was a withering plant, a drying leaf..."

Grace Gervais is John Gervais’s mother. She and her son have a mutually antagonistic relationship that often results in open hostility.
Grace appears to be in her mid-70s and very sickly. When Zac Dryden first encounters her, she is confined to a wheelchair and extremely thin. Her bedroom in the house she shares with John is filled with medical equipment and Zac believes she may be in hospice care.

Little is known about Grace Gervais. Until recently, she was married to Max Gervais and they were raising John Gervais on a remote island in upper New Hampshire. Following her alleged divorce to Max, she and John moved into a rental property outside of Hidden Rock. Grace appears to be housebound at this location.
Grace has a particular interest in the archaeological work of Robert Dryden and, along with John, has read all his books about ancient Greece. Upon meeting Zac Dryden for the first time, Grace began kissing his hands and muttering, “We are blessed, we are blessed, we are blessed…” It is not clear why Grace reacted this way, but it spooked Zac. John only complicated matters when he revealed that his mother believes the Drydens are “special.” It is very important to Grace that John get close to the Drydens for reasons still unknown.

ENEMIES
John Gervais (???)
- Despite her infirmity, Grace appears to be very concerned with her physical appearance to the point of vanity. Before being introduced to Zac Dryden, Grace makes he and John wait on the roadside for twenty minutes. When they are finally allowed to enter the house, they discover that Grace used the time to put on makeup and a thick pink robe to hide her physical frailty.
- Grace’s bedroom is filled with expensive medical equipment even though she and John live in a very run-down house in the country.
