Robert Dryden
Your father's Robert Dryden, the author?" John asked.
"Uh yes," Zac answered uneasily. For him, Robert Dryden had always been The Father or The Authority Figure or The University Professor. Robert Dryden, The Author, was someone Zac still didn't know particularly well. However, John seemed genuinely impressed.

Robert Dryden, Ph.D., is Zac Dryden's father and a Professor of Classical Studies at Grand Oaks University. His wife, Jennifer, died in a traffic accident when Zac was very young and he's raised his son alone since that time.

Robert Dryden was born and raised in Holland City, Michigan. He was a precocious child and an excellent student. In the second grade, he was placed in an advanced education program and ultimately graduated from high school at age 16.
Demonstrating a particular interest in ancient cultures of the Mediterranean, Robert went on to major in Classical Studies. During his post-graduate work in Greece, Robert met Jennifer Dauphine who was vacationing there. They married less than a year later and Zac Dryden was born the following year in Athens.
After obtaining his doctorate, Robert accepted a teaching position at Grand Oaks University and the family relocated to the United States Pacific Northwest. They eventually purchased the historic Walch House on the slopes of Sibyl's Hill after the structure had sat abandoned for many years. Robert and Jennifer were in the process of restoring the home when the latter was killed in a traffic accident. Although Robert remained in the home, renovations stopped on much of the house and have never been resumed.
To help deal with his grief, Robert channeled his energy into raising his young son and writing books. He went on to finish three titles, all of which dealt with ancient Greek mythology, religion and culture. Two of them, Between Heaven and Earth and Playground of the Gods were best-sellers.
Robert continues to teach and study at Grand Oaks University and has become instrumental in promoting the collection of the Museum of Hellenic and Cycladic Culture located on campus.
